University College London (UCL) – Chadwick Building
The Chadwick Building accommodates the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UCL and is located along the Gower Street side of UCL’s historic quadrangle. The building is Grade I listed.
The scheme involved the addition of new student and staff facilities within the building and improvement of the existing circulation through the building. This included a new basement under the existing laboratories and the insertion of new mezzanine structures. On the ground floor, we designed a cantilevered plywood monocoque structure because of the particular constraints of dealing with the existing structure and listed building issues.
