Piccadilly Basin, Manchester – Retail Park
Martin Stockley Associates are acting as Lead Consultant, Civil and Structural Engineer and Planning Consultant on the Piccadilly Retail Village projects. Based in Piccadilly Basin, the project involves the creation of a new town centre retail park below five storeys of residential space (159 apartments). The project has been designed in consultation with English Heritage to wrap around and respect the adjacent Grade II* listed Brownsfield Mill and involves the creation of a new public plaza which aims to reinforce links between the City Centre and New East Manchester. Other challenges which have been overcome in the design include the close proximity of the adjacent Rochdale Canal and presence of significant contamination and buried obstructions associated with developing a brownfield site of significant heritage at the heart of the Industrial Revolution.
