We are part of the design team appointed to develop the public realm and associated highways within the peninsula of Durham. Our work includes improving connectivity for both pedestrians and vehicles on this land-locked site, and we have developed an improved highway solution that creates significantly better pedestrian access reducing vehicle impact on this important regional and national site.

Our commission included the review and evaluation of works previously prepared, from which we were able to assess what investigation and design works needed to be developed further. Challenges include the repositioning of the 1861 listed statue of the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry and construction works within a burial site.  The project also involved major stakeholder consultation and engagement to permit the introduction of this truly flexible shared surface solution within the heart of this magnificent historic city.
